Ash and Soot: Chapter 2
Nothing happened in those three days and even though she had never doubted herself for a moment, Helena still felt the invisible burden lift when the Captain called for the lines to be cast off and the boat began to make slow progress up the gilded river. For 84 days Helena slept in a small room that had previously been occupied but an ugly mess of mops and cleaning supplies. She was given a small bed that swayed with every tip of the waves and her own piss pot. It was all the luxury she could have hoped for. As the days went on with the ruddy oarsmen singing their tunes and the meals a soggy mess of mashed potatoes Helena began to make her plans.
She would walk straight up to the front gates of Lord Omalis Manor and take her payment in full. She would purchase a horse, a fur coat, and would have 2 daggers made to her liking. She would ride to Kerviz by the cover of night and rest in the second inn that caught her eye. She would eat her belly full and for 1 day and 2 nights, she would sleep fitfully. Only then would she make her way towards the Altra mountains and the bloody slopes ahead.
The Ship made one stop in Ferhand where the captain had business to attend to, she roamed the streets with an air of dreamlikeness about her and made her way back to the ship just in time for the anchor to lift.
